Tower of Love

This is one of the defense towers of the Biertan fortified church in Transylvania, Romania.

Apparently, it was also used as a place to lock up couples in the village who wished to divorce. This was set up as a test which typically lasted for a week, during which the couple had to share one room, with a one-person bed, one set of cutlery, and one chair. In 400 years there was only one divorce at the end of the trial, so it looks like it was very effective. The room is still there now, furnished as it used to be. In fact, the whole church complex is a gorgeous sight, inside and out.
